In recent years meme culture has changed the our whole perception on what we view as humor. Meme culture is a huge part of every young person’s life today. Memes rooting from forums and accounts somewhat have a community within itself. These forums create a space in which like minded people can come together and share their ideas. This is where issues can occur. It is known that because of the internet, people who share ideologies can come together and further their input into what they think. This can create an environment in which hate is builded off one another. Political ideologies like the alt-right come in. They are known to be rooted off of forums like 4chan and reddit. When a collective is formed it keeps building, and depending on the people it come to an extreme. Alt-right tend to express their humor in memes, they often call “Edgy Memes”. These memes often discriminate based on race and sex. Due to the flow of information these “edgy memes”, tend to spread to cultures such as gaming culture and everyday life. Many people who spread these memes often defend themselves by saying it’s just a meme. The problem is that even if it is not meant to be malicious this spread of information can be internalized.
